James Tamou to join 300 club

The National Rugby League (NRL) has congratulated Wests Tigers prop James Tamou on reaching the 300-game milestone.

Tamou will on Sunday become just the 45th player to play 300 matches. He will bring up the milestone at Queensland Country Bank Stadium, against the club he debuted with in 2009, the North Queensland Cowboys.

Tamou played 170 matches for the Cowboys, 97 for Penrith Panthers, and so far has played 32 matches for Wests Tigers.

NRL CEO Andrew Abdo will present the 300-game match ball after the match to celebrate the achievement.

“On behalf of the rugby league community I congratulate James on achieving this remarkable milestone and wish him well for the remainder of his career,” Mr Abdo said.

“James has started 238 of his matches in the furnace of the front row, boasting more than 35 kilometres of hit ups along the way.

“James has become a leader in the game through his actions, inspiring his teammates with effort and endurance on the field and his humility off the field.”
