  • Liberal Member for Braddon Joan Rylah must apologise to Tasmania’s hard working health staff for disrespectful comments made in Parliament.

Shadow Health Minister, Sarah Lovell, said she was disgusted by Ms Rylah’s comments which she believed Tasmania’s health staff didn’t deserve a pay rise because they were not working hard enough.

“These comments are disgraceful and shows just how out of touch Ms Rylah and the entire Hodgman Liberal Government is,” Ms Lovell said.

“It shows they have no respect whatsoever for Tasmania’s health staff who are constantly working double shifts and overtime to keep up with the demand in caring for our families.

“Many of these people are at breaking point and the Liberal Government is forcing them to take a pay cut instead of putting forward an offer that recognises their true worth.

“These comments are rich given Ms Rylah gave taxpayers a $33,000 bill to open a new electorate office on the eve of the state election in 2017.

“This was an outrageous waste of taxpayers money but yet Ms Rylah has the gall to say that some of the lowest paid workers in the health and hospital system don’t deserve a pay rise that would bring them into line with the cost of living.

“The Premier must pull Ms Rylah into line and she must immediately apologise to Tasmanians for her highly offensive comments.”
