Did you know that six Mornington Peninsula Shire projects have been officially shortlisted as finalists in the 41st Annual Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s Tidy Towns & Cities – Sustainability Awards?

This is an exciting moment, especially considering the calibre of other shortlisted finalists we sit alongside. Out of 10 categories, we have been shortlisted in four: litter, education, environment and energy.

Our six projects that are shortlisted finalists for 2023 are:

Litter:

  • Smoke Free Environment trial (Safety Beach)
  • Dob in a Dumper

Education:

  • Repower Mornington Peninsula

Environment:

  • ‘A Coastal Wetland’ Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD)

Energy:

  • Solar and Energy Bulk Buy program
  • Solar for Tenants program.

Congratulations also to Rosebud local, Lily Setnik whose passionate environmental and community volunteering efforts have placed her as a shortlisted finalist in the Young Legends category.

Between 31 July – 1 September, each project will be judged with finalists announced on 13 September 2023. The awards ceremony follows on 23 October 2023. To see all shortlisted finalists, please visit Keep Australia Beautiful Victoria’s website:kabvic.org.au/2023-shortlisted-entries

Previously, the township of Hastings has been awarded two consecutive years of recognition in 2020 and 2021, for environmental action and leadership.

The recognition we have received across four categories ties back to our Council and Wellbeing Plan, in particular Theme One “A healthy natural environment and well-planned townships”. To learn more about our Council and Wellbeing Plan, please visit our website:mornpen.vic.gov.au/councilplan
