Kidnapping and deprivation of liberty charges in Surfers Paradise, QLD

Gold Coast detectives have charged four people – two men and two women- with deprivation of liberty after a 24-year-old woman was allegedly abducted from Surfers Paradise last night.

Members of the public alerted police after they saw a woman allegedly being dragged and forced into a vehicle at knife point at the intersection of Illawong Street and Stanhill Drive at around 10.30pm, April 15.

Police immediately commenced investigations to locate the woman which resulted in officers attending an address in Surfers Paradise Boulevard this morning where police located the 24-year-old, as well as the two men and two women, who were taken into custody.

A 40-year-old Miami man is facing ten charges including two counts each of deprivation of liberty, armed robbery and possession of dangerous drugs, as well as one count each of kidnapping, common assault, possession of a drug utensil and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 30-year-old man from Thangool has been charged with six offence including two counts of deprivation of liberty and one count each of kidnapping, armed robbery, common assault and unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

A 24-year-old Bongaree woman faces seven charges including kidnapping, deprivation of liberty, armed robbery, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, possession of a drug utensil and two counts of possession of dangerous drugs.

All three have been denied police bail and remanded in custody to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court tomorrow (April 17).

A 41-year-old Clayfield woman was charged with one count of deprivation of liberty. She is due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on July 6.

The 24-year-old Surfers Paradise woman sustained minor injuries.

The group were known to each other.
