La Trobe welcomes new education plan

As one of the largest higher education providers to rural and regional Victorian communities, La Trobe University welcomes the Government’s plan to improve educational outcomes for people living in rural and regional Australia.

The Government’s newly released National Regional, Rural and Remote Education Strategy closely aligns with our own mission – to ensure that all students are given an equal opportunity to fully realise the benefits of a higher education – regardless of their background, age or location.

We have long called for a coherent policy approach that uses Higher Education to fully unlock the economic, intellectual and social potential of our thriving regional centres, and hope that this plan will finally fill that policy gap.

We are fully committed to making this work and look forward to working with Minister Tehan over the coming months to refine and build on these proposals to ensure the best outcomes for regional and rural Victorian communities.

We also thank the Minister Dan Tehan for recognising the importance of this issue and for his drive and leadership bringing this plan to fruition.
