Labor Puts More Police On Beat In Our Regions

VIC Premier

Labor is putting more police in the regions – trained closed to home, ready to serve the communities they know.

Labor will back Victoria Police’s new Gippsland Regional Training Program and locals will be able to train there – without having to relocate to Melbourne.

Recruiting and training locally will fill vacancies faster, strengthen the regional workforce and improve retention.

Recruits will undergo the same 25-week world-class training, entry standards and assessments as everyone else.

Graduates will be deployed directly to regional stations – delivering an immediate frontline boost.

The Gippsland program builds on the new Mildura Regional Training Program.

It’s all part of Victoria Police’s plan to deliver more officers out on the streets. This plan is working.

Today, 47 new officers were inducted today as part of a double squad graduation – strengthening the frontline to keep Victorians safe.

We have built Australia’s largest police force, backed by our record $5 billion investment into Victoria Police.

This year, we have also funded 50 additional PSOs and 200 reservists – putting more officers on patrol, for more hours, in more places to keep Victorians safe.

Jess Wilson and the One Nation-Liberal Coalition are promising $40 billion in cuts.

That only means cuts to police, putting community safety at risk.

Victorians can’t afford that.

Only Labor has new solutions to make life safer, easier and more affordable.

As stated by Premier Jacinta Allan

“We are putting more police in regional areas and training them where they live – to get them out on the street faster.”

“Only Labor will continue to back Victoria Police with the resources they need to keep Victorians safe.”

As stated by Minister for Police Anthony Carbines

“Training police closer to home means starting their careers serving the communities they know best.”

“Jess Wilson’s Liberal One-Nation Coalition have announced their $40 billion cuts plan, and they can’t achieve it without cutting Victoria Police.”
