The upcoming Warrandyte by-election is an opportunity to send a strong message to the Andrews Government about its unfair and regressive schools tax.
Families are set to be punished by Labor’s schools tax, which will add thousands of dollars to the cost of educating a child at schools across the local community.
Warrandyte has a diverse range of low-fee independent and non-government schools, providing local families with choice of education.
Furthermore, with more than half of Warrandyte families with children at school attending an independent and non-government school, Labor’s Schools Tax threatens to push hundreds of students into already stretched local public schools in the area.
Shadow Minister for Education, Matt Bach, said families across Warrandyte are set to pay the price of the Andrews Government’s incompetence.
“Under Labor, Victoria is broke and it is hardworking parents who value choice of education that are being punished,” Mr Bach said.
“Labor’s Schools Tax will add further pressure to the public education system and ultimately lead to higher costs and poorer outcomes, disproportionately impacting families on lower incomes.
“Families who make sacrifices to give their children the best opportunity mustn’t be the ones paying for Labor’s record debt. Only a Pesutto Liberals and Nationals Government will scrap Labor’s Schools Tax.”
