Labor to help Nowra companies win defence contracts

A Shorten Labor Government will make Nowra a focus of Australia’s defence industry future by appointing a Local Procurement Officer, to make sure Nowra companies can compete for, and win, local defence contracts.

This election will be a choice between a united Shorten Labor Government which will see Nowra play a role in Australia’s defence and defence industry future, or more of the Liberals’ cuts and chaos.

Today’s announcement will see Nowra play a key role in Labor’s Defence Regional Procurement Policy. Our policy makes local economic outcomes a key objective of Defence procurement.

Labor will appoint Local Procurement Officers in key regions, including Nowra, to map local industry capability, advise on appropriate scheduling of work, and be the contact point for local industry with Defence.

Labor will offer a united team, focussed on Nowra and the national interest, not the chaos of five defence ministers in as many years.

It’s time Nowra and Australia had a government focussed on the national interest, not its own self-interest.

End the chaos. Vote for change. Vote for Labor.
