Lack of public housing data hides truth

Liberal Party Victoria

The Andrews Labor Government has failed Victorians who are in desperate need of a home.

Basic services have been ignored over the past two years as the government continues to use the cover of COVID to excuse themselves.

The government’s Big Housing Build proposal doesn’t even cover half of the 28,000 Victorian families on the Priority access waiting list, let alone the 52,000 on the Victorian Housing Register.

These families are the casualties of a government who has let them down over several years. A line item in the Budget and a flashy website is no use to a family who needed a home yesterday.

In what is clearly an effort to hide this stark reality facing Victorians, the government is refusing to release the latest Victorian Housing Register and Transfer list.

The Minister has these figures on his desk, the only reason to delay would be to hide the escalating problem. For full transparency they should be released immediately.

Daniel Andrews’ failure to grasp the magnitude of the problem leaves too many Victorian families without a place to live or a plan to rebuild our state.

The failure to publish crucial public data in a timely manner is further evidence of a growing the lack of transparency to Victorians, as well as a lack of commitment to the vulnerable people who need help the most.
