Lara man to face court after ramming police

Police arrested a man after he allegedly rammed a police car in Lara on Thursday morning (31 October)

Detectives from Geelong Crime Investigation Unit attended the Breguet Road address to execute a warrant when they were met by the man trying to leave the premises in a car at midday.

The 34-year-old Lara man allegedly rammed an unmarked police vehicle then drove off and crashed a short distance later.

After crashing, the man ran from the car and was quickly arrested.

One police officer received a serious hand injury and was taken to hospital for treatment, he has since been released.

After the arrest, the Detectives executed the warrant with the assistance of specialist units.

The man has been charged with:

Make threats to kill

Threat to inflict serious injury

Prohibited person in possession of a firearm

False imprisonment

Criminal damage by fire

Possession of a category E handgun

Assault police (indictable)

Reckless conduct endangering life

He has been remanded in custody to appear at the Geelong Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
