Launceston Airport taking off

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is doing what matters for all Tasmanians by investing in the State’s tourism sector to keep the economy strong and create jobs.

Premier, Jeremy Rockliff, said latest data from the Launceston Airport recorded their busiest month on record in December, with the Christmas period delivering record levels of passengers touching down in Tasmania to experience everything our great State has to offer.

“It’s the fifth consecutive month for setting all-time records and great news for tourism in our great State,” the Premier said.

“It’s also the biggest start to a financial year on record. From July 1 through to December 31, 2023, the airport saw 682,845 passengers touch down or take off.

“It’s clear that our long-term plan to sustainably grow visitation to the State is working with more and more visitors choosing Tasmania as their holiday destination.

“This follows the significant boost to visitation levels, with Tasmania welcoming 1.26 million visitors in the year ending September 2023, up 31 per cent from the same period last year.

“The Tasmanian Liberal Government has invested more than $5 million to the $14 million redevelopment of the airport including the freight facility, the check-in and arrivals halls upgrades.

“I congratulate the Launceston Airport management on this achievement, which follows on from the recent opening of the new passenger check-in hall and security screening point.”
