Launch of Territory’s Agribusiness 2030 Strategy

NT Government

The Northern Territory Government is developing Agribusiness for the Territory with a target of a $2 billion sector by 2030.

The Territory’s Agribusiness 2030 Strategy was launched by the NT Government today, looking to unlock maximum potential across the region and increase the value of the Agriculture and Aquaculture Industries from $1.3 billion in 2021 to $2 billion by 2030.

Agribusiness employs people right across the NT and is especially important for employment in rural and regional areas.

The Strategy was co-designed with industry partners through consultation and feedback to ensure the priorities and actions are aligned to achieve sustainable agribusiness growth.

The four key strategic priorities included in the strategy strongly reflect where efforts are being directed:

· Engagement with our broad community of stakeholders to maintain their respect and support;

· Protecting what we have worked hard for in terms of our reputation as a supplier of choice for high-quality produce;

· Continually adapting and innovating to capitalise on opportunities and to respond to biosecurity and climate change threats; and

· Focusing our efforts on actions that activate the key drivers of growth if we are to succeed in realising our vision.

The NT covers one sixth of the Australian continental landmass, with 43% of this used for agricultural initiatives. The Strategy provides clear direction and shared vision for Government and industry with the overall goal of increasing sustainable agribusiness across the Territory, prioritising development of strong relationships with Aboriginal people and Traditional Land Owners to support growth in Aboriginal-led agribusiness activities.

Investment in biosecurity preparedness and surveillance also underpins growth in the Agribusiness sector and maintaining our vigilance and capacity to respond to biosecurity risks to Northern Australia remains a priority.
