Laverton visitor centre tender awarded to Goldfields builder

  • Local builder awarded tender for upgrade of the Great Beyond Visitor Centre in Laverton
  • McGowan Government investing $1.3 million to expand the existing visitor centre
  • The Great Beyond Visitor Centre upgrade will get underway in the coming months with a Kalgoorlie-Boulder based builder announced as the successful tenderer.

The Shire of Laverton has awarded the tender for the $2.6 million upgrade to ACorp Construction, who will expand the existing facility to include a new merchandising space, café, alfresco dining, and cultural garden.

The McGowan Government is investing $1.3 million into the project, which will provide a unique tourism and cultural experience for travellers on the Outback Way.

The Outback Way is a significant national road project. It will see the sealing of the road from Laverton to Cairns, resulting in significant increased visitation through the Northern Goldfields.

The awarding of the tender to a Kalgoorlie-Boulder based builder will support local jobs in the region and provide a welcome boost to the local economy.

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“The upgraded Great Beyond Visitor Centre will provide a unique visitor experience at the beginning of the Outback Way, connecting our State with the rest of Australia.

“The centre will promote the region and showcase local Aboriginal culture, further encouraging overnight visitation.

“It is fantastic to see this work awarded to a Goldfields-based builder as part of our Government’s commitment to local content on regional projects: creating local jobs in the region and boosting the local economy.”

As stated by Mining and Pastoral Region MLC Kyle McGinn:

“ACorp Construction was founded nine years ago by two Kalgoorlie-Boulder men, initially based in Perth but quickly opening up their Kalgoorlie-Boulder office on Forrest Street where it still is today.

“It is also great to see the McGowan Labor Government’s support of the Shire of Laverton, delivering economic and social benefits to the local community and region.

“Being the only café in Laverton, the expanded visitor centre will form a hub for both visitors and residents to meet and enjoy the new, modern facilities.”
