LED Light Replacement: Bayside

Bayside Council’s Street Lighting Replacement Program has resulted in a significant reduction in energy consumption as well as cost savings.

Bayside Council’s rollout of energy efficient 17W LED lights to replace 3,680 streetlights on local residential roads started in May 2019.

The new streetlights have already reduced Council’s energy bill by about $50,000 per month when compared to previous accounts where LEDs were not in use.

Most of the old lights are 80W Mercury Vapour luminaires and the replacement program is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

Residents are benefitting from this replacement program as the new lights provide better overall lighting as well as cost savings.

The reduction in energy consumption also has an environmental benefit.

Energy Consumption for local street lighting has reduced significantly and equates to a reduction of 1085 Tonnes of CO2 per annum.

The breakdown rate of the new lights is also significantly lower than the older style vapour lamps which means less money is spent on light repairs.
