The Hodgman Government must come clean on details surrounding the appointment of the Treasurer’s Chief of Staff to a top job in the Health Department.
Chair of Labor’s Transparency Committee, Jo Siejka, said the Hodgman Government has serious questions to answer, including:
- How many applicants were there for the $260,000 Deputy Secretary job?
- How many people were interviewed?
- Was a recruitment agency used? How many candidates did they put forward? Where was the agency based?
- What was the position description?
- Was the Treasurer a referee for the staff member?
- Did the Treasurer absent himself from conversations in cabinet?
- Did the Premier or his office approve the appointment?
“If this appointment was fair and just then the Hodgman Government needs to come out today and answer these serious questions,” Ms Siejka said.
“Tasmanians have every right to be suspicious given the Hodgman Government’s appalling track record of giving jobs to mates and doing dodgy deals – including appointing Jeremy Rockliff’s Chief of Staff to Secretary of DPAC, and Deputy Chief of Staff to the role of Children’s Commissioner.
“People should be seriously concerned that someone who has developed devastating budget cuts to the health department is now responsible for overseeing the Royal Hobart Hospital redevelopment and other major projects.”
