Local business helps fight against COVID-19 spread

Ingleburn-based manufacturer, BresMedical have been hard at work over the past few weeks developing personal protective equipment to support the Australian healthcare system.

Using state of the art Selective Laser Sintering 3D Printers and Computer Numerical Control technology, the company is supplying vital personal protective equipment (PPE) to healthcare workers dealing with the COVID-19 health situation.

Mayor George Brticevic said he was proud to see local business using its expertise to contribute to the fight against the spread of COVID-19.

“Advanced manufacturing is an important part of our local economy and it’s great to see one of our business using its technology and the creativity of its staff to produce important PPE,” Cr Brticevic said.

“PPE is vital for our health workers who are more likely to be exposed to higher dosages of the virus, making them more susceptible to serious infection,” he said.

Managing Director Kevin Cullen said the tragic COVID-19 health situation highlighted the importance of local manufacturing.

“Moving forward all I can see is opportunity for Australians and our local communities,” Mr Cullen said.

“COVID-19 seemed to be a stop and think moment when it was realised that we were dependent on other nations for PPE, a wake-up call is always a refreshing moment,” he said.

“There is an opportunity to reset the Australian business environment in all industry sectors to gear us towards being a more independent nation that can compete internationally.

“The manufacturing industry would be a good starting point as the knowledge, technology and precision engineering skills required would provide major benefits to young people and in turn, the wider community.”
