Local job opportunities flow from final Jetty Road contract

  • Western Australian company awarded $5.8 million contract to complete Jetty Road causeway upgrade at Casuarina Boat Harbour
  • Local jobs created boosting local construction industry and South-West economy
  • $12.3 million upgrade a key election commitment and part of stage two of Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront project
  • A Western Australian company has been awarded the $5.8 million contract to complete the Jetty Road causeway upgrades at Casuarina Boat Harbour, generating local jobs and opportunities for local contractors in the building and construction industry.

WA company, Densford Civil Pty Ltd successfully tendered for phase two of the upgrade which includes the reconstruction of Jetty Road, increased parking with 164 bays, the introduction of shared paths and landscaping, the construction of a multipurpose building incorporating public toilets, and improvements to utility services in the area.

The $5.8 million contract will see five South-West subcontractors, four of them Bunbury-based businesses, with a workforce of 20 engaged in the construction ahead of completion by mid-2020.

Essential improvements to the causeway structure were completed earlier this year as part of the $3.5 million phase one works contract, and saw an additional 24,000 tonnes of rock placed to improve protection during storm events. A further $3 million in project funding has been spent on investigations, design and project management.

Upgrading the Bunbury Waterfront was a key election commitment, and will support and stimulate the growth of tourism and local industries.

As stated by Premier Mark McGowan:

“Upgrading the Bunbury Waterfront was one of our key election commitments and I’m pleased this $5.8 million contract has been awarded to a local company.

“The involvement of local contractors in the delivery of phase two work will stimulate the building and construction industry in Bunbury and across the broader South-West, and create local job opportunities.

“When complete the upgrade will encourage more tourists to visit Bunbury and help stimulate the growth of local industries.”

As stated by Regional Development Minister Alannah MacTiernan:

“One of our election commitments was to upgrade the Bunbury Waterfront – stage one of this project is now complete.

“We are now moving to stage two of Transforming Bunbury’s Waterfront, which means more enhancements will be carried out to Jetty Road causeway and then Casuarina Drive.

“Planning is underway for stage three which incorporates a thriving mixed-use area, marina and marine industry hub.”

As stated by Bunbury MLA Don Punch:

“Living in Bunbury, it is exciting to see the way our city continues to transform with locals and visitors alike making the most of the Koombana Foreshore and revamped Dolphin Discovery Centre.

“Ensuring this contract results in new work for local companies means more opportunities for local jobs and will help stimulate the Bunbury economy.

“I’m proud to be a part of the McGowan Government that is continuing to deliver on our election commitments.”
