Playgrounds across the Orange City Council area have closed following a decision overnight by national health authorities.
The decision will affect:
- playground equipment in more than thirty community neighbourhood parks
- three skate parks
- outdoor gym equipment in three local parks.
Orange City Council CEO, David Waddell said signs will be erected at each location.
“Across the organisation, we are complying with the recommendations of health and government authorities, and monitoring changes as they are made,” Mr Waddell said. “This is an ever changing challenge but our attention is on community health and safety while continuing to meet community needs.”
“Playground equipment can be found in 33 council-owned neighbourhood parks in Orange and nearby villages. People can still opt to use the open-space park for their daily walk, but the latest health recommendation is that the equipment is off-limits and is now closed.
“For example, Cook Park is still open but the swings are off-limits. People can walk along the paths in Moulder Park, in the recommended numbers and with social distancing, but the Elephant Park play equipment is closed. The gates will be closed at the Adventure Playground, off Hill Street, but the Botanic Garden is still open.
“We have three skate parks in Moulder Park (John Lomas Skate Park), Glenroi Oval and Anzac Park, and they are now closed.
“There is outdoor gym equipment in Moulder Park, Gosling Creek Reserve and Margret Stevenson Park, and they are now closed.
“It’s great to see how the Orange community is continuing to work within the evolving recommendations as they emerge. It will all help us to get through this crisis together.”
