The Inner West is seeking recruits with local knowledge and a passion for social policy to join its Local Democracy Groups.
Thirteen Local Democracy Groups cover everything from Arts and Culture to Indigenous Australians to the Environment to Housing, Transport, Bicycles, Seniors and more.
The groups are designed to harness the local knowledge, ideas and feedback of the community to optimise Council’s decision-making and improve community wellbeing and long-term sustainability.
A diverse range of ages, backgrounds and experiences is encouraged because the Inner West understands that having varied perspectives in the Local Democracy Groups helps generate better ideas and outcomes for the whole community.
Inner West Mayor Darcy Byrne said, “We want the Inner West to be the incubator where new policy solutions to big societal challenges are created. We’re inviting citizens with local knowledge and a passion for public policy to join our new Local Democracy Groups.”
Deputy Mayor Jessica D’Arienzo said, “We have incredible capacity in our local community, people with passion and lived experience can contribute in a genuine way to our democratic processes. It’s an opportunity to meet up with other like-minded people who are engaged, enthusiastic and interested in making a difference and sharing ideas to build a better local community.”
