Major works start on South Gippsland Highway

Vic Department of Transport

From Monday, 31 January, crews from the City of Casey will work to connect Glasscocks Road in Cranbourne North with the South Gippsland Highway, including the installation of new traffic signals.

While these works are carried out, the Cranbourne-bound lanes of the South Gippsland Highway will close between Hallam Road and Thompsons Road from Monday, 31 January to Thursday, 31 March. All traffic will share the Melbourne-bound lanes.

As construction progresses to the next stage in March, the Melbourne-bound lanes of the South Gippsland Highway will close, with all traffic then sharing the Cranbourne-bound lanes.

Speeds will be restricted and motorists should plan for significant delays through until June 2022.

Thompsons Road, Western Port Highway and Evans Road provide good alternatives to avoid the works, and will be monitored by the VicRoads signal team who will adjust traffic lights where appropriate to minimise delays.

When completed, Glasscocks Road will provide an alternative east-west link for Cranbourne North residents, reduce reliance on Thompsons Rd and improve travel times and safety for local road users.
