Tradies and licensed professionals will find it easier than ever to work in South Australia and Victoria.
The Morrison Government, with the South Australian and Victorian governments, removed the need for licensed workers to apply and pay for an additional licence to work in South Australia or Victoria.
Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ben Morton said this is part of the Government’s Automatic Mutual Recognition Scheme (the Scheme) which is cutting red tape businesses and licensed workers including tradies, real estate agents, teachers and lawyers.
“We’re saving individuals and businesses time, money and paperwork, so workers can work where the work is,” Minister Morton said.
“By removing the need for tradies to get another licence when they move state, we’re making it easier and cheaper for them to make that move.
“As business and consumer demands change, the Scheme also makes it easier and quicker for businesses to hire and mobilise employees.”
South Australia and Victoria are the first states to remove temporary occupational exemptions from 1 February 2022 on certain trade licences made under the Scheme.
The Scheme is currently in place in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia, Tasmania, the Australian Capital Territory and the Northern Territory, with Western Australia working to join from 1 July 2022.
The Scheme is anticipated to add over $2.4 billion to the Australian economy over the next 10 years, and benefit more than 168,000 people each year.
