A man will face court tomorrow charged after EV charging stations in Newcastle and surrounding areas were allegedly damaged last month.
The investigation commenced after several EV charging stations were allegedly damaged between Friday 12 June 2026 and Tuesday 30 June 2026.
Locations affected included EV chargers in Newcastle, Hamilton, Kotara, Wallsend, Swansea, Warners Bay, Heatherbrae, Raymond Terrace, Tuggerah, Erina, and Gosford.
Following extensive inquiries, officers attached to Newcastle City Police District executed a search warrant at a home on Hexham Street, Kahibah, earlier today (Friday 10 July 2026).
During the search, police allegedly located and seized 17 EV charging handles (plugs), cutting tools, a taser, and several large bags of stripped cables.
A vehicle allegedly used in the incidents was also seized.
A 29-year-old man was arrested at the home and taken to Belmont Police Station.
There he was charged with:
- Stealing (10 counts)
- Destroy/damage property (11 counts)
- Possess prohibited drug
- Supply prohibited drug
- Possess or use prohibited weapon without permit
- Drive motor vehicle while licence suspended
- Dispose property-theft-serious indictable offence
He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court 2 tomorrow (Saturday 11 July 2026).
