High-range Speeding At Julia Creek

A 53-year-old Muttaburra woman has been fined and had her licence suspended after allegedly being detected driving at 66km/h over the speed limit at Julia Creek on 8 July.

Officers from Mount Isa Highway Patrol were conducting mobile patrols in Julia Creek around 12.30pm when they observed a Toyota Landcruiser travelling on Flinders Highway at 176km/h, 66km/h over the signed 110km/h speed limit.

The driver was issued a high-speed traffic infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40km/h, carrying a penalty of eight demerit points and a $1,986 fine.

Her licence will also be suspended for six-months for the offence.

The Queensland Police Service is committed to reducing the number of lives lost on our roads. However, enforcement alone cannot stop all dangerous driving behaviours.

Every choice you make behind the wheel, matters. Driving under the influence, speeding, driving distracted or while fatigued, or not wearing a seatbelt puts your life – and the lives of others – at serious risk. These dangerous behaviours will not be tolerated.

Queenslanders can expect police – anywhere, anytime.

Road safety starts with you.
