Man charged following alleged break-in; charity tins, cigarettes stolen – Murray River

A man will face court today, charged over an alleged break-in in the state’s south at the weekend.

About 11.30pm on Sunday (9 April 2023), a man allegedly broke into a store on Livingstone Street, Mathoura, and stole two charity tins, 40 packets of cigarettes, and drinks, before fleeing the scene.

Officers attached to Murray River Police District were notified and commenced an investigation.

Following inquiries, police located a 28-year-old man hiding in a toilet block within a visitor centre on Moama Street, Mathoura, just after 8.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 11 April 2023).

Police seized cigarettes, methylamphetamine and drug paraphernalia from his backpack, as well as clothing relevant to the investigation.

The man was arrested and taken to Deniliquin Police Station where he was charged with break and enter house etc steal, possess prohibited drug, and possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.

The Tocumwal man was refused bail, to appear before Deniliquin Local Court today (Wednesday 12 April 2023).
