Man charged following threat to public safety – Murray River

A man will face court after allegedly threatening to shoot an aircraft in the state’s south.

Just after 7.50pm on Thursday (15 February 2024), police were called to Albury Airport following reports a man had threatened to shoot down an aircraft.

On arrival, officers attached to Murray River Police District were told that an unknown man allegedly made a phone call to the airport and warned that he has a gun and will use it to damage aircrafts.

There were no injuries reported due to this incident.

Following inquiries, police arrested a 40-year-old man at an address on Walsh Street, Albury about 11pm on Thursday (15 February 2024).

Police also seized number of firearms along with ammunition and pepper spray at the premises.

He was charged with make demand with threat to destroy/damage aircraft/vessel, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, and use carriage service to menace/harass/offend.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Albury Local Court on Wednesday (28 February 2024).
