Man charged with accessory after the fact to murder – Balmain

A man has been charged over his alleged role following the death of a man at Balmain earlier this year.

About 3.40pm on Saturday 29 July 2023, emergency services were called to Donnelly Street, following reports of an assault.

On arrival, officers attached to Leichhardt Police Area Command located a 29-year-old man suffering significant injuries to his head and torso.

He was treated at the scene by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital, where he died a short time later.

Police had been told the man was injured during an altercation with two men before the pair fled in a white Jeep.

The vehicle was later located burnt out on Preston Avenue, Five Dock, where police located a firearm inside.

Local detectives and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad established Strike Force Dears to investigate the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

A post-mortem examination was conducted, which revealed the man had also suffered a gunshot wound.

Following extensive inquiries, a 30-year-old man attended Campsie Police Station, where he was arrested by strike force detectives about 2.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 5 September 2023).

He was later charged with accessory after the fact to murder and hinder investigation serious indictable offence of other.

The Bexley North man was refused bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court today (Wednesday 6 September 2023).

Investigations under Strike Force Dears are continuing.
