Man charged with drink driving on a scooter, Fortitude Valley

Police have charged a man with drink driving after he was allegedly riding a Lime scooter in the Fortitude Valley Safe Night Precinct on Saturday night.

It will be alleged that police stopped a 43-year-old Newstead man in James Street after he was riding the scooter on the road, without a helmet and failed to stop at a red light.

The man was arrested and later subjected to an alcohol breath test. He returned a blood alcohol concentration of 0.174 per cent – 3.5 times the legal limit.

He is due to appear in Brisbane Magistrates Court on February 6.

Police would like to remind those who choose to ride personal mobility devices, such as electronic scooters, that drink driving laws apply, as with cars and other vehicles.

The QPS will not hesitate to take enforcement action against anyone found to be riding an electronic scooter whilst under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Queensland road rules also state that all personal mobility device users must wear an approved helmet.
