The ACT Government is continuing to progress plans for a new City Police Station and ACT Policing Headquarters.
Supported by $3.767 million in the 2026-27 Budget, the project is moving to the next stage of procurement. A Request for Proposal (RFP) process will open this week for shortlisted proponents. This follows the successful Request for Expression of Interest process launched in June 2025 to identify suitable proponents.
The ACT Government is seeking to deliver a modern City Police Station and Headquarters in Canberra’s CBD, with safe, inclusive and accessible facilities that support the wellbeing of both the public and ACT Policing staff.
The project will aim to see the replacement of two ageing facilities, including the current City Police Station and ACT Policing Headquarters in Belconnen.
The new facilities will bring the City Police Station and Headquarters together in a central location, supporting operational efficiency, business continuity and community access to policing services.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Services, Dr Marisa Paterson:
“The new facility will offer modern, fit-for-purpose workspaces that enhance staff health, wellbeing and safety through improved workplace design. It will also strengthen access to policing services, particularly for vulnerable people and victims of crime, by delivering accessible, welcoming and trauma-informed environments.
“This is an important next step towards new critical city infrastructure, that will help shape the future of policing in Canberra.”
Quotes attributable to ACT Chief Police Officer, Scott Lee:
“I welcome the continued progress to deliver a modern new headquarters for ACT Policing and a fit-for-purpose City Police Station so we can continue to serve our community well into the future and ensure the health and wellbeing of ACT Policing members.”
