Man dies in hospital after brawl in Darlinghurst

A man has died in hospital two days after being injured during a brawl at Darlinghurst.

Emergency services responded to reports of a fight on Oxford Street about 12.35am Saturday (9 April 2022), and found a 23-year-old man with critical head injuries.

Officers from Surry Hills Police Area Command were told the man fell to the ground after allegedly being punched.

NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the injured man at the scene, before he was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Investigators have been advised the man died about 7.30pm yesterday (Monday 11 April 2022).

Detectives from Surry Hills Police Area Command have formed Strike Force Nadzah to investigate the circumstances of how the man came to be injured.

Following an appeal for information, detectives are following up a number of leads from the public; however, they have renewed their appeal for witnesses to come forward as well as any mobile phone vision of the fight.

Three men arrested and charged with affray over the incident remain before the courts. No one has been charged over the alleged assault.
