Man faces sexual touching charges in Broadway

A man will face court today following an alleged sexual touching at Broadway last month.

About 12pm on Monday 16 December 2019, a large group of primary school students were waiting for a bus outside a shopping centre on Bay Street, when they were approached by a man.

Allegedly as the man walked past the line of students, two boys, aged nine, were sexually touched before he allegedly attempted to touch a girl.

The man walked away, entering the nearby shopping centre and police were notified.

Officers from Leichhardt Police Area Command commenced an investigation into the incident.

Following a public appeal for information, about 12.30pm on Thursday 2 January 2020, police arrested a 61-year-old man at the shopping centre on Bay Street.

He was taken to Newtown Police Station where he was charged with two counts of intentionally sexually touch child under 10 and attempted intentionally touch child under 10.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Newtown Local Court today (Tuesday 7 January 2020).
