Man Killed In Multi Vehicle Crash – Unanderra

A man has died following a multi vehicle crash near Wollongong.

About 8:20pm yesterday (Friday 20 September 2024), emergency services were called to the Princes Highway, Unanderra, following reports a motorcycle had collided with a bus, a utility and a sedan.

Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District and Crash Investigation Unit attended and were told the motorcycle and bus had been travelling south, and the utility and the sedan had been travelling north, when the motorcycle reportedly overtook the bus, before hitting the bus, utility and sedan.

NSW Ambulance treated the 23-year-old male motorcyclist; however he died at the scene.

A report will be prepared for the information of the Coroner.

Police established a crime scene and commenced investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The 24-year-old driver of the utility allegedly left the scene before later returning.

Both the male bus driver, aged 54, and the female driver of the sedan, aged 19, stopped.

The three drivers were arrested and taken to Wollongong Hospital for mandatory testing, before the 54-year-old man and 19-year-old woman were released.

The 24-year-old utility driver was charged with fail to stop & assist after vehicle impact causing death.

He was refused bail and will appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Saturday 21 September 2024).

Investigations are ongoing.
