Victorian Small Business Commission
Small businesses in Manningham are set to gain more support, with Manningham Council signing up to the Small Business Friendly Council initiative.
Developed by the Victorian Small Business Commission, the initiative aims to address issues faced by small business owners by making it a lot easier for them to start and grow their businesses.
By signing up, Manningham Council is committing to a range of measures including:
- helping to manage impacts to trade caused by disruptive infrastructure works
- paying small businesses promptly
- working towards faster permit approvals
- helping to set up and grow local business networks.
Last Friday, Commissioner Judy O’Connell, Member for Eastern Metropolitan Sonja Terpstra, Manningham Mayor Cr Paul McLeish and Manningham Council CEO Andrew Day met in Doncaster for the signing of the initiative’s Charter.
Ms Terpstra, attending on behalf of the Minister for Small Business, said Manningham Council’s signing shows how we can work together to bring about a fair and inclusive business environment that will benefit the local community.
With over 14,000 businesses in Manningham across industries including retail, health care, and hospitality that stand to benefit, Manningham Council CEO Andrew Day is pleased to be signing up.
“Local businesses are at the heart of our community. As a council we’re here to provide business assistance, attract new business and investment into Manningham and to help develop leading local businesses to be successful,” Mr Day said.
“We know there is more we can do, however becoming a part of the Small Business Friendly Council initiative is an important way for us to further the help we’re already providing to our small business community and to greatly benefit our local economy.”
Commissioner Judy O’Connell said councils are a vital support to local businesses and that working together is the key.
“I’m really pleased to see Manningham Council make this important commitment to work together to help create a level playing field for local businesses,” Commissioner O’Connell said.
The council’s move builds on a range of support they currently offer, including the Manningham Business website where people can access information about local shopping centres, tourism, business development events and business resources.
