MaroondahConnect: Community support phone line launched to help during COVID-19

A free community helpline has been established for residents requiring extra support during the coronavirus pandemic.

A call to MaroondahConnect, our community support line, can help residents access a range of emotional, practical and social supports if they are feeling lonely or isolated or facing some difficulties.

The support line 1300 88 22 33 operates Monday to Friday, from 9am to 5pm and is funded in partnership with the Department of Health and Human Services.

Residents who may feeling lonely, more anxious or worried than usual, or needing help caring for someone during COVID-19 are encouraged to reach out to Council’s friendly support team who will help to direct them to the most suitable local support services.

Council is working with partner agencies to provide emergency support to those community members finding themselves in urgent need of assistance and with limited social support or networks.

While we recognise that many of our residents are self-sufficient or have family, friends and neighbours to assist them, there will be others without these networks, who might need some assistance from Council and our community partners.

Those who need an extra helping hand can call the MaroondahConnect support line if they are feeling lonely, troubled or confused, or need to talk to someone about their concerns caring for a vulnerable person during this challenging time.

Our support team can arrange local emergency relief support or refer people to partner organisations and agencies who can help.

The community support line offers information and can connect residents with local services including:

  • emergency food relief
  • home support services
  • financial counselling/assistance
  • family violence support
  • mental health services
  • disability support
  • senior and youth services
  • gambling/drug and alcohol support.

The COVID-19 pandemic has brought into even sharper focus the importance of community and social connections to improve health and wellbeing. This initiative is about people getting the help they need safely and locally.
