Marshall Government launches ‘Keeping Metro Traffic Moving’

The Marshall Government has launched its Keeping Metro Traffic Moving initiative which will help continue to bust traffic congestion across Adelaide.

Keeping Metro Traffic Moving is a comprehensive policy to tackle road congestion, keep traffic flowing and get South Australians where they want to go sooner.

The launch of Keeping Metro Traffic Moving comes as the Marshall Government today announces an extension of clearway operating times, set to come into effect by the end of June, on portions of key metropolitan roads including Sir Donald Bradman Drive, South Road, Northcote Terrace, Nottage Terrace, Payneham Road and North Terrace, Flinders Street, Marion Road, Goodwood Road, Port Road and Unley and Belair Roads.

This builds on the successful extension of clearway operating times implemented last year on Glen Osmond Road, Fullarton Road, Main North Road, Portrush and Lower Portrush Roads, Hampstead Road and North East Road.

“Keeping Metro Traffic Moving involves a range of measures to help bust congestion across Adelaide, reduce travel times and get people home sooner,” said Minister for Transport, infrastructure and Local Government Stephan Knoll.

“This initiative will involve a range of measures including intersection and road upgrades, level crossing upgrades, safety improvements, bus priority lanes, bus indents and a host of other solutions.

“Across Adelaide, a number of our most important and frequently used roads are showing increased congestion and many intersections are either approaching or at capacity.

“The previous Labor Government didn’t do enough to tackle congestion on our roads.

“The Marshall Government wants to get on top of traffic bottlenecks and bust congestion choke points fast.

“We want to avoid the same problems we’ve seen in Sydney and Melbourne where there is traffic chaos that has crippled those cities.

“That’s why we have worked with the Federal Government to secure $341 million of Federal funding to upgrade nine of Adelaide’s most notorious bottlenecks.

“We’ve also begun works on the Pym to Regency section of the North-South Corridor and we’re fast tracking the final piece of the North-South Corridor, the notorious 10.5-kilometre stretch between Darlington and the River Torrens.

“We’re also busting congestion by extending more clearways on main roads to help traffic flow during peak hour to help get people to work and home quicker.

“The Marshall Government will continue to develop and implement more congestion busting initiatives and projects to ease traffic across Adelaide.”
