Master Builders Victoria names top projects in state’s North West

Winning Homes Group Pty Ltd and Fairbrother Pty Ltd received top honours tonight at the North West Master Builders Regional Building Awards, held at All Seasons in Bendigo.

Winning Homes Group was named Residential Builder of the Year (North West) for a Moama home huddled close to the Murray River.

The design takes in a prospect of the river and red gums. Winning Homes Group guided the clients through a number of decisions to simplify the plan allowing them to build a home within their budget without compromising on build quality, fixtures and fittings. Zinc-coloured bricks on the exterior complement the reddish hues of the gums and ironbark, and the structure was finished with a matrix painted in a rich grey to blend with the environment. The challenge of sourcing on-site red gum and preparing it to create feature piecs within the home was a satisfying exercise for the builder.

“This home is a handsome and well-built outpost from which to observe nature along the Murray,” Master Builders Victoria CEO Rebecca Casson said. “It brings the waterside atmosphere indoors.”

Fairbrother was named Commercial Builder of the Year (North West) for its work on Bendigo Stadium in Bendigo.

The stadium expansion included new internal courts, including the main show court, and has both fixed and retractable seating to accommodate up to 4000 spectators. The seating banks offer flexibility in the design and space, to create various arrangements suitable for numerous types of local community, Australian and international events. Due to the complexity of the design, the roofing material was measured and rolled on site to suit each section of the roof, asnd installation was done by abseiling down the curved face in a sequenced fashion. Roofing contractors had to obtain abseiling accreditation prior to the approval of this process.

“It is always interesting to understand the challenges of major projects such as this one, that feature so prominently in the community,” Ms Casson said. “It helps to underscore the important role the building and construction sector plays in the lives of the people of Victoria.”

Winning Homes Group will now compete in the Victorian Excellence in Housing Awards to be held on 11 October in Melbourne. Fairbrother will compete in the Victorian Excellence in Construction Awards to be held on 16 August at Palladium, Crown.
