In our Council Plan 2021-2025 there is a special section on Key Opportunities for Growth given the very high importance and focus Council is placing on growth.

Council commits to “Champion the central location of Central Goldfields Shire to advantage” and to promote our Aerodrome, passenger rail and freight and, future road connectivity.

The Maryborough Aerodrome has been a priority of this Council from our first day as we understood our community’s concern about securing the best outcome for the Aerodrome to support the community.

At our first meeting the priority need to meet with key stakeholders was moved as urgent business and that very successful meeting led to a great deal of further consultation with the President of the Aerodrome Committee and discussion within Council.

We recognised there were some complex legacy issues, especially leases, which needed to be resolved before we could focus on the future and I appreciate the hard work of our CEO and staff to address these matters.

In April 2021, Council settled many issues for the Aerodrome and established an expert Community Task Force led by Neil Arbuthnot to make recommendations on its future. The Task Force has met on a number of occasions and recently met to brief Council.

Council has asked the Task Force to formally report to Council and it will be good to receive and debate that report and share it with the Community.

The future of the Aerodrome remains a key priority and the process Council established is really working.
