- State Government to develop State Disability Plan
Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson has today announced plans to develop a State Disability Plan that will underpin all State Government activities and initiatives that support and empower people with disability over the coming decade.
The plan will drive more inclusive communities and improve the accessibility of State Government services, systems and infrastructure for all Western Australians with disability.
Development of the State Disability Plan is part of the State Government’s strategy to listen, engage and hear the needs of the disability community.
National Disability Services WA called for a State Disability Plan in its pre-Budget submission presented to the State Government on October 22, 2018.
Consultation will extend to people with disability, their families and carers, support networks, service providers, State and local governments and advocacy groups.

As noted by Disability Services Minister Stephen Dawson:
“There are about 360,000 Western Australians with moderate to severe disability.
“The State Disability Plan will be an authentic and responsive action plan that reflects the desires, aspirations and needs of people with disability in WA for the longer term.
“The first stage of the process will be consultation and engagement.
“The intention is to reach people with disability, their families and carers to gather real-life experiences to help develop the plan.
“Most importantly, the plan is not just for people with disability – it’s for all Western Australians who want to live in an inclusive community.”
