Melbourne: Journey Beyond Fear

The Centre for Optimism

As the COVID lockdown continues, millions of Victorians continue to support and lead colleagues, family, and friends with a sense of realistic optimism.

“Optimism is a state of mind, not a state of the world” is a mantra of the Melbourne-based Centre for Optimism’s founder, Victor Perton.

With fortunate timing, on Tuesday 1 June, The Melbourne-based Centre for Optimism will host an online conversation with Silicon Valley guru John Hagel, who launched his book “The Journey Beyond Fear” last week.

The online event “The Journey Beyond Fear” will be held at noon on 1 June via Zoom. Bookings are free and made via the Centre’s website https://www.centreforoptimism.com/event-4335933

“My neighbours and the people I talk to on the phone and via video aren’t happy about the lockdown. Despite the fear of contagion, like generations of Australians before them, they are getting on with making the best of the circumstances for themselves, their family and work colleagues,” said Mr Perton.

During lockdown, two other activities offered by The Centre for Optimism support personal and organisational optimism and resilience:

“The Optimistic Melbourne 2021: What makes you Optimistic?” survey offered in partnership with The Melbourne Business Network takes 4-5 minutes and can be accessed on the web at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MBNOptimism2021

An online-course “The Habits of an Optimist” has 14 animated modules to reinforce optimism, is free and can be taken in as little as an hour. Produced in partnership with Project Optimism, the author John Hagel is the animated character in the module on innovation and optimism. https://www.projectoptimism.com.au/courses/optimism-can-be-learnt-the-habits-of-an-optimist/

“Keeping up a realistic and optimistic outlook is what’s needed in an environment of rational fear of contagion. It’s not easy, but the optimism tools The Centre for Optimism has developed should help,” Perton said.
