Grants will be used to construct eight new men’s sheds. Four of these will be for new groups in Colac-Otway, Campaspe, Swan Hill and the Mornington Peninsula. Twenty-one existing men’s sheds will use the grants for renovations or extensions.
Men’s sheds provide a safe and busy environment where people can roll their sleeves up, build friendships and give back to their local community. They can have extraordinary benefits for the mental health and wellbeing of individuals by reducing loneliness and isolation.
Mt Duneed Men’s Shed will use their $80,000 grant to repurpose a warehouse in Armstrong Creek. The conversion will include separate areas for metalwork and woodwork, and a dust extraction system.
Community men’s sheds were inspired by traditional backyard sheds – a place where skills were passed along, issues were discussed and problems solved.
Currently, there are men’s sheds in more than 360 communities across Victoria.
