METS business bootcamp open for Central Queensland companies

Small-to-medium-sized enterprises in Central Queensland looking to secure new work are encouraged to apply for the Mining Equipment, Technology and Services (METS) Business Accelerator Program before EOIs close tomorrow.

The intensive business development course will be delivered online and is fully funded by the Queensland Government, in partnership with Rockhampton Regional Council and METS Ignited.

Member for Rockhampton Barry O’Rourke said the accelerator program is open to those with an innovative business solution that could service the METS industry.

“We understand these are challenging times, which is why it’s important for us to continue backing business development and innovation,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for CQ startups and established local businesses to access expert knowledge and advice on developing strategies to realise new commercial opportunities.

“Finding new ways to get innovative ideas to market is key to ensuring our state’s $7 billion METS sector can continue to grow and thrive.

“I encourage any eligible SMEs, especially those servicing our mining, oil, gas and energy sectors, to submit an expression of interest to take part.”

Member for Keppel Brittany Lauga said the METS sector is a major local employer and contributes significantly to the regional economy.

“I’m delighted these opportunities are available to local SMEs and startups during these tough times,” Ms Lauga said.

“Central Queensland’s METS companies have developed great entrepreneurial spirit and are well known for solving mining challenges.

“This program will shine a light on Central Queensland innovation and give local businesses unique access to industry experts.

“This is a great platform for businesses to tap into new opportunities and secure future work.”

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow said the program was a fantastic opportunity for local businesses.

“We know businesses across the region are doing it tough right now, and council is working hard to support them in whatever way we can,” Mayor Strelow said.

“SmartHub Rockhampton is thrilled to be hosting this program, delivered through a series of online workshops by experienced mining executive John Sleigh.

“I can’t wait to see local companies realise the full commercial potential of their innovative ideas.”

To be eligible applicants must:

  • Have an innovative cost-saving idea, product or service that would be attractive to the mining, energy or resources sectors
  • Plan to operate and employ in the Rockhampton/Central Queensland Region to supply into the Queensland, national and/or international mining, energy and resources sectors
  • Be available to participate in the program online during May, June and July using video and audio chat apps such as Zoom and Skype
