Mofflin Reserve has been a much-anticipated project, with local residents eagerly watching the major project come to life over the past 10 months.
The $4.6 million development stands out as one of the most diverse parks within the City of Playford. It features an expansive play area, an area for relaxation providing dedicated spots for visitors to unwind and several fitness stations along the walking loop track.
Mayor Glenn Docherty said the new space complemented the rest of the Playford Health and Wellbeing Precinct, which encompasses the Lyell McEwin Hospital and the recently opened aged health and education hub Healthia and other health-related services.
“Mofflin Reserve reflects its surroundings and was constructed in ways to support health and wellbeing in mind, which is evident in the extensive fitness track and the therapeutic garden, where raised garden beds sprout a variety of native plants,” said Mayor Docherty.
“There’s an incredible looking basketball court, plenty of greenery and trees, sheltered BBQ and picnic facilities – making it the perfect location for this summer.”
The park also features teepees for children to play hide and seek and to let their imagination run wild. Various climbing and natural elements found in the nature play area, like the rustic natural archway, integrate a mix of adventure and sensory experiences into playtime.
Elements prominent throughout the consultation feedback were also incorporated into the final design such as extra indented carparks, an upgrade to an existing off-street carpark, more lighting and new public toilets.
“The goal for the project was to establish a new community park and replace an under-utilised section of the reserve, providing an area to support members of the public on their healing journey,” said the Mayor.
Council received $2M from the Government of South Australia’s Open Space Grant Program to support the upgrade of Mofflin Reserve, with the City of Playford funding the remainder of the project costs.
Minister for Planning Nick Champion said that the upgraded Mofflin Reserve is a great example of the sorts of projects the Open Space grant program helps bring to reality.
“The reserve is now a transformed communal space that caters for a massive cross-section of the community,” Minister Champion said.
