This morning, the Honourable Lily D’Ambrosio MP, Minister for Climate Action, Energy and Resources, was joined by local Member for Frankston, Paul Edbrooke MP at Monash University’s Peninsula campus to experience the University’s Boiler Electrification – Domestic Hot Water Project in action.
Supported by a $810,000 grant from the Victorian Government’s Business Recovery Energy Efficiency Fund Capital Works Grant Program, the project involved the replacement of natural gas boilers with electric systems in four buildings across Monash University’s Clayton and Peninsula campuses. The new hot water systems boast zero greenhouse gas emissions, leading to an estimated 80 per cent reduction in energy usage compared to previous systems.
Monash University’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice-President, Peter Marshall AM, was on hand to help demonstrate the innovative project.
“We’re grateful to the Victorian Government, the Department of Environment, Water, Land and Planning, and the Business Recovery Energy Efficiency Fund (BREEF) team for their invaluable support in achieving the project’s success,” said Mr Marshall.
“They played a vital role in facilitating the transition to electrified hot water systems, demonstrating the power of collaborative efforts towards a greener future.”
The Minister’s presence underscored the significance of the grant funding and showcased Monash University’s commitment to achieving Net Zero by 2030 through embracing large scale energy-efficient technologies.
Building upon the success of the Boiler Electrification – Domestic Hot Water Project, Monash University has already commenced the construction of six additional systems at its Clayton campus, targeting more complex buildings.
