More certainty for Hobart waterfront festivities this year

Following discussions between the State Government and the Hobart City Council, an Expression of Interest will be advertised this weekend seeking submissions to run a Taste style event on the Hobart waterfront over the Christmas / New Year period for 2021-2022.

Premier Peter Gutwein said the EOI is great news for locals and businesses, and is the first step in facilitating an event on the Hobart waterfront over the holiday period this year.

“Getting out on the waterfront over the holiday period is an iconic part of the Hobart calendar, and as I have said, I do not want to see locals and businesses miss out on an event two years in a row.

“The EOI will allow suitable proponents to outline their vision to refresh the Taste of Tasmania concept this year, activating the waterfront across the important holiday period and supporting the many businesses that benefit. Importantly, it will continue to be an iconic event that supports our visitor economy.

“Financial support, and the use of PW1, will be available from the Tasmanian Government to assist with conducting the event given its importance to the tourism and hospitality sector as well as the broader economy,” Mr Gutwein said.

Hobart Lord Mayor Anna Reynolds said the City of Hobart is pleased that the State Government will be seeking to partner with a provider to deliver a ‘taste style’ event at the end of this year.

“It’s a very positive step for Hobart and we will work closely with the State Government and create a program of waterfront activity to run alongside and complement the event.”

The EOI will run until 30 June.
