More Support for Territory Businesses: Work Stay Play Extended

NT Government

The Territory Government’s Work Stay Play incentive has been extended until the end of the year, with the initiative already helping local businesses attract over 400 workers.

The Work Stay Play initiative was launched in May to help hospitality and tourism employers attract workers and fill critical workforce shortages.

It is part of the Territory Government’s $2m Critical Worker Support Package to immediately boost skills and job opportunities for Territorians, and attract additional workers to the Territory, or encourage visitors to stay for work.

The incentive was also expanded in August to support employers in the agriculture and aged care sectors.

Work Stay Play offers a payment of up to $1500 to reimburse new workers to help cover costs associated with moving into a new job.

Payments are made on a per new employee basis and the one off payment can include airfares, moving household effects, transporting a vehicle or even accommodation and rental assistance.

Applications for the Work Stay Play incentive have been extended until 5pm on 31 December 2021.

Quotes from the Minister for Small Business and Jobs and Training

“We have listened to local industry and we have listened to our business owners and we know they still have vacancies and need to find staff now.

“It’s been fantastic to see over 400 workers easing some workforce pressures in the agriculture and aged care sectors, as well as providing much needed support to the hospitality sector.”

“Combined with initiatives from our Jobs First Plan and our recently announced $3.3m Business Support Package, we are keeping local businesses operating and Territorians in jobs.

“This Critical Worker Support Package is designed to support Territory businesses, and provide skills and job opportunities for Territorians – this is always the first workforce priority for our Government.”
