More than $20 million for road resealing and renewal this season

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Infrastructure and Transport

The Tasmanian Liberal Government is maintaining our 3,700 kilometres of State roads to support our economic growth and deliver a quality experience for road users.

To achieve this we have allocated more than $20 million, including $5 million of additional funding, this financial year to road resealing and renewal around the State. Works are already underway at a number of locations and will continue while weather conditions permit. The renewal works will provide a stronger, longer lasting and safer road for all road users.

The program has been expanded and prioritised to target key areas for completion this financial year, including on the Bass and Midland highways, ensuring a strong and long-lasting road surface.

There will be works at high priority sites on the Bass Highway between Launceston and Devonport. This includes resealing and renewal of several sites including locations around Prospect, Carrick, north of Deloraine and near Sassafras and Latrobe.

The Esk Main Road between Conara and Avoca is another focus area, with work planned at seven sites.

On the Midland Highway we are resealing or renewing sections of the road between Conara and Launceston, including sites in the Symmons Plains area.

Significant works on Mud Walls Road are also in the final stages of planning and will be completed early next year.

These works will address some issues caused by high levels of rain experienced during the winter and spring of 2021, particularly in the north and north west of the State.

Road users can keep up to date with planned roadworks by visiting the Transport website at transport.tas.gov.au or following RoadsTAS on Facebook.
