Kiama Council encourages nominations for the Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards.

Kiama, Wollongong, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven councils are proud supporters of the Awards, which recognise the talents, excellence, and significant contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in our region.

Mayor Neil Reilly said the Awards not only celebrated the strengths and talents of our First Nations communities but were a major vehicle for advancing reconciliation.

“We have as a nation made great strides towards understanding and reconciliation in recent years with events such as the Local Government Regional NAIDOC Awards playing a significant part,” Cr Reilly said.

“I urge everyone across our region to take the time to consider making a nomination, whether an individual or organisation, for one of the award categories.”

There are 6 award categories:

  • Aboriginal Elders of the Year
  • Aboriginal Worker of the Year
  • Aboriginal Young Achievers of the Year
  • Aboriginal Community Volunteer of the Year
  • Aboriginal Organisation or Project of the Year
  • Outstanding Contribution to Reconciliation (Aboriginal or Non-Aboriginal)

Entries close at 5pm Sunday 30 June 2023.

Kiama Council is hosting the Awards this year with a ceremony at The Pavilion Kiama on Saturday 29 July.

Tickets for the ceremony go on sale Thursday 1 June 2023.

The Awards are also supported by the NSW and Australian Government, as well as sponsorship from local business and service providers.
