The latest exhibition on display at Hurstville Museum & Gallery from 28 January to 26 February, is a creative and experimental showcase by a local Georges River artist.
‘Name that Mushie’, the first solo exhibition by Matthew Huan, explores a selection of fungi species and how they relate to their namesakes.
In this series, unconventional mediums mimicking traditional tools were used to create each artwork.
‘Pantry pigments’ made from various food ingredients such as coffee, turmeric, fruit and vegetable juices, honey, sauces and food colouring imitating pen, pencil, ink and media are used in his paintings.
When observing the illustrations, visitors are encouraged to use their imagination to identify the names of the mushrooms. Each artwork is accompanied by objects serving as clues to the ‘shroom names.
Georges River Council Mayor Nick Katris said, “This new exhibition is a fantastic example of how Council’s spaces promote opportunities for local artists in our community.
“I encourage everyone to come and support the exhibition and also see what else Hurstville Museum and Gallery has to offer.”
