Naming of Coffee Palace Park made official

At the June Ordinary Council Meeting, it was passed that the park at the intersection of Main, Victoria and St Georges Streets in Stawell will be named Coffee Palace Park.

The place naming was made official after community consultation was undertaken, with overwhelming support of the proposed Coffee Palace Park naming given the site’s historical significance and connection to the Coffee Palace, which was the longest tenant at the site from 1889-1956.

Council will now look to further enhance the space by displaying information about the site’s predecessors.

Mayor of Northern Grampians Shire Council, Cr Kevin Erwin said, “Most of the comments we had from the community were around having some history of the site displayed, in terms of what businesses or buildings have been there.”

“All of that is now part of the plan moving forward in terms of further developing Coffee Palace Park.”
