Conservation Week 2027 has been confirmed for 19-25 April, so it’s time to start assembling your team and thinking about what you can do for nature.
Nature loves a team effort, and needs all sorts of teams to make a difference. Some people want to get their hands dirty, while others fundraise, volunteer, or inspire. The focus this year is on group effort, whether it’s in the workplace, community, whānau, or a bunch of mates working together to help nature – every little action adds more to the collective.
DOC Director-General Pete Chrisp says this is an opportunity to pull together for nature, with no right or wrong way to get involved.
“Whoever you are, now’s the time to start thinking about how you’ll team up and get involved,” says Pete.
“With a group of good people around you, naturing can be a really wild time, so get out and have fun.
“This will be my first Conservation Week with DOC. Maybe I’ll plant a tree, set a trap, clean up a beach, or hunt some deer. Exactly what we do isn’t important; if it helps nature, or helps people care about it, we’re on the right track.
“It doesn’t matter the size of the effort, nature loves it all. So get out there and give it a go.”
Start planning now to bring your passion for nature to life in a way that works for your team. If you need inspiration, DOC’s Nature Action Finder helps you find ways to help nature, tailored to what you care about, how much time you have, and how much you’re able to put in. And, while the focus is on the collective, individual actions count just as much – everything adds up to success for nature.
More resources and promotional materials will be available closer to the event. For updates, check in regularly at the DOC Conservation Week webpage.
Background information
Always Be Naturing
Always Be Naturing celebrates New Zealanders’ love of nature and encourages everyone to get involved. DOC is one of many organisations protecting nature, and we need the collective effort of all New Zealanders so nature thrives for generations to come.
Conservation Week 2027
Conservation Week (19–25 April) calls on New Zealanders to get naturing – for nature. At home, in workplaces (yes, including newsrooms), or in your community, there are countless ways to take small actions. Nature loves a team effort, and the more of us who take action, the more nature will thrive for generations to come.
