The new Nature Playground at Goldfields Reservoir is ready for play following its completion and the current advice from the State Government.
The new playground, located near the Reservoir’s main carpark (at the end of Reservoir Road), features rocks, logs and soft fall and is designed for children to use their imagination for creative play. The project was funded as part of the Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative
The Nature Playground was built from material found in the local area to help it blend into its surroundings and is the first of its kind in the Central Goldfields.
Central Goldfields Shire Chief Administrator Noel Harvey said the new asset is a welcome addition to the Reservoir precinct.
“The new Nature Playground will help boost the popularity of the Goldfields Reservoir, which is already a favourite location for locals. The playground is a new way for children to explore their surroundings and develop essential risk awareness skills,” he said.
“This new addition will complement other works at the reservoir which have included upgrades to the walking track – also funded by Healthy Heart of Victoria – and the refilling of the Reservoir, which was made possible thanks to a partnership between Council and Central Highlands Water.

Funded by the State Government, the $5 million Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative aims to make residents living in Loddon Campaspe communities more active, more often.
To date the Healthy Heart of Victoria initiative has funded the following projects in the Central Goldfields Shire:
- $51,272 for the Maryborough Community House Kitchen Garden and Community Playground
- $137,131 for the Goldfields Reservoir path upgrade and Parkrun, Maryborough
- $29,647 for Basketball Court in Gordon Gardens, Dunolly
- $140,000 Gordon Gardens upgrade – new bicycle scooter pump track, outdoor fitness equipment and shade structure (project currently underway)
